Giving the Shirt off their Backs
You know the saying “I’d give you the shirt off my back.” Some Talladega College students are doing that for Haiti earthquake victims. On Tuesday they were folding, stacking and taping boxes for shipment.
Chrisopher Harris says, “We just figured this would be something so somebody doesn’t have to sleep shirtless.”
Larhonda Turner says, We’re sorry, with what happened in Haiti but we’re going to do everything possible to help out.”
The shirts were sold in the bookstore honoring the college’s national championship team. The school decided to donate them to Haiti. It didn’t take a lot of time but they’re hoping the project will make a big difference. Students folded the shirts inside the cafeteria all on their lunch break.
Regina Waller explains, “Eight hundred fifty t-shirts were donated by the college and also we had some members of the Talladega team to jump in there and donate detergent and also to donate money.”
The boxes arrive in haiti by way of a Royal Caribbian cruise ship. It’s making bi-weekly stops with supplies in Haiti. For Talladgea College students this shipment marks a beginning.
Turner says, “There could be more donations, as we speak people are donating now.”
