Talladega Superspeedway crews practice high-bank rescue

A high-banks rescue crew trains on getting Dr. Bobby Lewis, Talladega Superspeedway Medical Director, right, to a driver in a car during a red flag should the driver need immediate medical treatment. Talladega Superspeedway Fire & Safety crews trained at the track in firefighting, driver extrication, high-banks rescue and vehicle rollovers. Crew members come from across the country to complete training at Talladega Superspeedway

Ever wonder how rescuers would get to a car that was stopped at the top of the track in one of the high-banked turns at Talladega Superspeedway?

Well, they actually have a plan for just such an occasion and the folks who conduct such operations carried out a drill at the track this weekend.

Since the 33-degree banking makes it extremely difficult to walk up the track in the turns, rescuers practiced rappelling down from the top of the track.
